Passengers arriving in or departing from Japan should be familiar with Japan
Customs laws and regulations.
The Japan Customs Office provides services for
both arriving and departing passengers at all international airports, in
line with international standards set by the World Customs Organization (WCO).
Arriving Passengers
Japan Customs uses a two-channel system for clearance:
•
Green Channel (Nothing to Declare) – For passengers without dutiable,
restricted, or prohibited goods.
•
Red Channel (Goods to Declare) – For those carrying dutiable items,
restricted goods, or if uncertain about whether goods must be declared.
Purchases from Duty-Free Shops
Duty-free allowances apply to the country you are entering, not departing
from. Passengers should confirm customs limits and duty-free allowances of
their destination country before traveling. Customs regulations may change
without prior notice, so always check with Japan Customs or local
authorities for the latest information.
Please note that duty-free shopping is permitted only for passengers
traveling on international flights.
Travelers should always check the latest Japan Customs regulations before
arrival or departure to ensure compliance and avoid penalties.
