Hiroshima Airport (IATA: HIJ, ICAO: RJOA) is the primary airport serving Hiroshima Prefecture, located about 50 km east of Hiroshima City in Mihara. Opened in 1993, it replaced the former Hiroshima West Airport and now functions as an important gateway to western Japan, offering domestic and international connections.

Facilities

The airport features a modern, three-story terminal equipped with a variety of traveler conveniences. Facilities include restaurants and cafés, souvenir and duty-free shops, business lounges, ATMs, currency exchange counters, and free Wi-Fi. There’s also a tourist information center, nursing rooms, and car rental services. The rooftop observation deck provides scenic views of aircraft operations and the surrounding countryside. Accessibility features are available throughout the terminal.

Airlines and Destinations

Domestic services are provided by All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan Airlines (JAL), and IBEX Airlines, connecting Hiroshima with Tokyo (Haneda), Sapporo, Okinawa, and Sendai. International routes include regular flights to Seoul (Incheon) and seasonal connections to cities like Taipei and Shanghai, operated by carriers such as Asiana Airlines and China Eastern Airlines.

Public Transportation

Airport limousine buses connect Hiroshima Airport to Hiroshima Station in about 45 minutes. Buses also run to Fukuyama and other regional cities. Taxis and car rentals are available, and the airport’s location near the expressway makes it convenient for travelers exploring Hiroshima, Miyajima, and surrounding areas.
