Aguni Airport (IATA: AGJ, ICAO: RORA) is a small regional airport located on
Aguni Island, part of Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. It lies about 60 km
northwest of Naha, serving as a vital air link between the remote island and
the Okinawa mainland. The airport is managed by the Okinawa Prefectural
Government and primarily supports short-haul domestic flights.
Facilities
The airport has a single-story terminal building with basic facilities
suitable for its light traffic. Services include a small waiting area,
restrooms, vending machines, and an information counter. There are no
restaurants or retail shops, reflecting the island’s tranquil, rural nature.
The terminal is within walking distance of the island’s village area, making
it very convenient for locals and visitors.
Airlines and Destinations
Ryukyu Air Commuter (RAC), a subsidiary of
Japan Airlines (JAL), operates regular
flights between Aguni Airport and Naha Airport using small turboprop
aircraft such as the DHC-8-400. These flights provide essential connectivity
for residents, tourists, and cargo transport.
Public Transportation
Transportation options on Aguni Island are limited. Visitors can use local
taxis, rental bicycles, or small rental cars to explore the island. The
airport’s compact size and close proximity to the village make travel easy
and relaxed.
